www.petnet.com.au Choosing a suitable breed of dog can be difficult. Should it be large or small, active or gentle, hairy or smooth coated? Selectapet has been developed to help you make the right decision in choosing your best friend.

www.virtualdog.com is the place to feed, walk, train and otherwise enjoy the company of a virtual doggie! See if you can take care of your dog and then see if the two of you can take on the world!

www.cyberpet.com is a pet information site on dogs and cats.

www.vca.org.au the Victorian Canine Association site is devoted to aspects of pure bred and associate dogs. You can access information on specific breeds, contacts and activities. The site has a comprehensive children's section with a large number of links to other commercial children's sites.

www.guidedogs.asn.au People who are blind or can't see very well need help to be able to move around. Guide dogs help these people by being "their eyes". They help these people to do things like walk down the street without bumping into things and safely cross the road.

www.hearingdogs.asn.au These dogs help people who cannot hear by letting them know when the doorbell is ringing or the kettle is whistling. They can also understand simple signs so that their owners can communicate with them.

www.aqis.gov.au/schools has both a teachers and students section and gives an insight into the workings of Aqis (quarantine), particularly how the dogs detect food and or other substances, which could pose a problem to us in Australia.

www.customs.gov.au Well-trained Labradors use their wonderful sense of smell to find illegal drugs that people try to bring into Australia. They work at the airport and mail centres.
