Cat Definitions

Cats can be classified as owned, unowned or feral. There is no biological difference between them.

Owned
An owned cat is in regular contact with its owners who provide it with food, shelter, appropriate veterinary care (including desexing) and should be registered with the local council.

Unowned Cat
An unowned cat does not belong to a human family and tends to rely on human handouts for food from such places as rubbish bins and dumps. They tend to live in colonies and rely on each other.Visit our Who’s for cats website.

Feral Cat
A feral cat is unowned and survives completely independently from humans. It lives in the bush, never in towns and feeds itself on other animals.
